Whether I’m wearing a lot of makeup or wearing none, questions that I’m asked are often related to what I prefer in terms of skincare. It is so important to take good care of your skin. It is our body’s largest organ! My skincare routine has changed a lot over the years, but for the past few months, I have really been loving the products I have been using!
There are some products that I constantly keep in rotation, and some products that I really only use if I’m having a breakout, so I’ll separate this blog post into those two sections. I hope you find useful tips to add to your daily regimen should you choose to read on! 🙂
Products that I Use Regularly
There are three cleansers that I rotate between, but for starters, an item that I use no matter which cleanser I choose is the Bare Minerals Skinsorials Double Cleansing Brush. It retails at Ulta for $18.00, which is BARELY a fraction of what even a Clarisonic brush head would cost you, and I find that it works much better. I love this brush because it is gentle and perfect for cleansing, but also lightly exfoliates as you use it. It’s a must.
Now, to get into the cleansers, I would say my favorite one is by far the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. This one will leave your skin feeling smoother than ever, will even out your complexion, and will help with any blemishes more gently than typical products geared toward acne-prone skin. I consider it a cleanser that is safe for sensitive skin, however, I would not recommend it as a daily staple because it has the potential to be drying with overuse. I use this cleanser every couple days.
Another longtime favorite of mine that I would also unfortunately not recommend for daily use is the Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel. My Mom got this for free when I was in college, didn’t want it, and gave it to me, and I instantly fell in love with it. It has a lot of the same perks as the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. and it is slightly less drying! My skin feels perfect when I use this cleanser! However, it’s a little pricey… Retailing for $38.00 (crying face emoji!!!). Which is why I rarely pick it up. Lol But if you scope out the sales at Ulta, you may get lucky! I got it for only $19.00 last month. 🙂 I would surely recommend this cleanser to anyone fighting age and gravity (lol), but also to anyone with a full range of skin dilemmas. I wish I could more easily put into words how great this cleanser makes my skin look and feel, but sometimes, the proof is just in the price point. Occasionally, splurging is 100% worth it, and this is one of those times.
For regular, daily use on dry or sensitive skin, I love Skincredible Ultra Gentle Cleanser. My Mom and I buy Skincredible products, owned by my mother’s Botox lady, Anita Rowan Schwartz, in Rosemont. A large, 6.7 oz. bottle retails for $22.00, but she often sells it at a lower rate. Anita is a genius and her products are magic. Skincredible’s Ultra Gentle Cleanser is really much better than any drugstore cleansers. It is much easier on your skin, and again, is worth the price point.
All of these cleansers last me a long time, because I only use a small, nickel-sized drop on my Bare Minerals brush when I wash my face. I always follow up washing my face with patting it dry with a towel, and immediately moisturizing.
I got SUCKERED into Lancome High Resolution Refill-3x Night Cream by getting a sample of it as a free gift, and falling in love with it. However, I try to only use it a couple times a week because it is definitely out of my budget (just like everything else so… why complain now? Lol). It retails for $105.00. As ridiculous as it sounds, this night cream 100% changed my skin. I feel a lot more comfortable going bare-faced ever since I have been using this, and I at least recommend getting your hands on a sample size. But, ya know, when I’m not putting off my student loan payments and credit card debt to afford a night cream I don’t need, I use Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer. I usually buy it at Target or the grocery store for about $11.00. This moisturizer is great, and has never made me break out once. It’s produced by a brand that is geared toward sensitive skin. This is the moisturizer I use on all of my makeup clients.
Products I Use in the Event of a Breakout
That heading was a little dramatic. Lol But anyway, if I am breaking out, I avoid strong astringents and products containing alcohol or chemicals that are popular in the media, and I opt for tea tree oil. Tea tree oil clears up my breakouts faster than anything else I have used, and it’s 100% natural! I buy mine at Target for less than $10.00, and one bottle lasts me months. It works wonders, however, it can be VERY drying, so only dab it directly on your blemish!
I also LOVE Que Bella face masks from Target. They are sold individually for $2.00 – $3.00. I like to use them once or twice a week, depending on the state of my skin. The ones that I use are the repairing face mask, the pore-minimizing face mask, and the perfecting face mask. They are each packed with a lot of wonderful, natural ingredients! I apply them with a flat foundation brush, leave them on for about 15 minutes, and wipe them off gently with a hot, wet face cloth.
I really hope that my skincare routine gave you at least a couple pointers! The only constant in life is change (*annoying cliche* lol), so I’m sure I will be providing another update in a few months!
